Year 2 Forest Schools Session 4

Lesson: Science

Class: Year 2 Year: 2015 - 2016

Today in Forest Schools it was all about SPIDERS.

To start we sketched images in the classroom of what we though spider webs looked like. We also wrote sentences about why they are in a certain shape.

Next we went outside and quickly explored the webs that had been made in the outdoor classroom.

We then thought carefully about where and how webs are designed and came up with the following reasons:

*Spider webs are usually in corners so they can keep well hidden.

*Spider webs are attached to posts / trees / poles for extra support.

Next we learnt from Simon how a spider spins a web in certain directions to make 8 strands for balance and how it can decide to make the silk sticky or not by using a chemical inside its spinnerettes.

After this he showed us how insects are trapped and spiders set about eating them.

Finally we used wood and string to make our own webs.

What a fun-filled session.
