PE

INTENT

At Weaverham Forest Primary School, the aim of PE in our school is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision.

It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all.

We want our pupils to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle.

Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop the School Games Values of determination, passion, respect, honesty, self-belief and teamwork as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport.

IMPLEMENTATION

We cover the National Curriculum PE objectives using the New Zealand Fundamental Skills resources (PDFs found at Developing fundamental movement skills | Sport New Zealand - Ihi Aotearoa (sportnz.org.nz) as guidance and the Youth Sport Trust TOPS PE cards as a delivery and planning tool to ensure all pupils get a rich and balanced curriculum.

Swimming instruction is provided across all year groups and is provided by Weaverham community pool with top up in Year 6 for pupils that need it (subject to Covid restrictions).

Regular pupil voice, lesson drop ins by the Subject Leaders and co-delivery lessons with the High School/Primary Link PE Specialist are completed to ensure sufficient coverage and learning is taking place.
